904 HUM (GOLDMAN)

~SWITCHING TO GOOGLE CLASSROOM~
Hello 904 lovelies! I hope your weekend went well.

As of this week (April 6-9), we will be officially switching to Google Classroom for Humanities. Every Monday I will be posting your assignments for the week there. You have been emailed an invitation to join my class, so check your email for the link! You can also access Google Classroom by clicking here and logging in: https://classroom.google.com/.
If you have problems accessing our class, please email me at jfgoldman@educbe.ca.

All assignments, tests, and work will be through google classroom. The work for the week will be posted at 8:00.  If you are doing work through google classroom it is automatically shared with me when you push the hand in button, so you don't need to share (or in most cases forget to share) directly with me

Communication
Phone Calls and Password Resets
What did we do?
Hello everyone! Today you should be expecting a call from one of your lovely teachers. We have some questions to ask you before we kick off online learning. So if you get a call from a number you don't recognize that might be us!

Students, we will likely be communicating with you by email so please make sure you know your CBE gmail login information. If you have forgotten your password here is a link to help you reset it https://passwordhub.cbe.ab.ca/

Look forward to chatting today!

My Dearest 904 students.

I am thinking of you everyday. It is beyond bizarre to be at school without your beautiful faces and growing brains. Please take good care of yourselves - talk to friends, get outside, read a book, eat good food... all the things you need to do to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. I am always here for you lovelies. Please email, if you need anything... I can also call.

As soon as I have information, you will too.

Please know that you are not alone.

Love,
Ms. G

School-Wide Write Prompt

Monday, November 4, 2019

We are right in the swing of things in Humanities. We are starting off our days with a
1 minute write, trying to strengthen our writing stamina, in preparation for our
school wide write on November 20.
In Social Studies we will be working through the Justice unit for the next month or so.
Today we discussed various quotes about the Justice system and whether or not we
agreed with them and why or why not.
In Language Arts we will be working through our Literature Circles over the next
5 weeks. Students are working in groups and have different jobs each week to help
students dive deeper in to their assigned novels. More to come!!!
Students got back their short stories - which were awesome!!! Great job 9-4! Some made
me laugh, others made me cry; but all were taken seriously and showed a great effort made. If you are looking to rewrite your story, please check dialogue rules listed here:

Dialogue Rules All Writers Should Follow

Before we get into the actual formatting and styles of writing dialogue (along with some tips for making sure it’s good dialogue), let’s go over some of the common and universal rules for writing dialogue in any book genre.
Here are the main rules for writing dialogue:
  1. Each speaker gets a new paragraph. Every time someone speaks, you show this by creating a new paragraph. Yes, even if your characters are only saying one word, they get new paragraphs.
  2. Each paragraph is indented. The only exception for this is if it’s the start of a chapter or after a scene break, where the first line is never indented, including with dialogue.
  3. Punctuation for what’s said goes inside the quotation marks. Any time the punctuation is a part of the person speaking, they go inside the quotes so the reader knows how the dialogue is said.
  4. Long speeches with several paragraphs don’t have end quotations. You’ll see more on this below, but overall, if one character is speaking for so long they have separate paragraphs, the quotation marks on the end are removed, but you start the next paragraph with them.
  5. Use single quotes if the person speaking is quoting someone. If you have a character who says, “Man, don’t you love it when girls say, ‘I’m fine’?”, the single quotes indicate what someone else says.

Here are our upcoming key events for the month of November:

November 1: Non-Instructional Day
November 8: Remembrance Day Assembly
November 11: Remembrance Day (no school for students)
November 14: Superhero Night (more information to come in the following week)
